I bet that most dog owners have similar experiences and lessons learned. BTW, our first dog rescue was a beagle named Harley. Our second rescue was a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen (PBGV) named Whiskey. Our two daughters had an immediate understanding with our dogs; the adults took a while to be trained by our dogs. My takeaway; kids are born stoic and as our society takes over, we loose it and it takes work to regain it with our dogs being teachers.
"Besides love and sympathy, animals exhibit other qualities connected with the social instincts which in us would be called moral." -- Charles Darwin
"You know how to cut to the core of me, Baxter. You're so wise. Like a miniature Buddha, covered with hair." -- Ron Burgundy

Maybe the most eminently quotable movie out there. Mini-Buddha is spot on.

Oh man! We're just flooding the internet with dog philosophy content. I've got mine going out tomorrow :)

Great point about kids too, the ability to be present starts strong and gradually lessens if we aren’t attentive to it.
100% Barry. They cut down to the core of what it means to be human.
