Good morning.
In typically forthright manner, the Stoic teacher Epictetus presents the following questions and answers to his students in one of his lectures:
What is weeping and wailing? A judgment.
What is misfortune? A judgment.
What are strife, discord, fault-finding? Judgments.
What are negative criticism, impiety, foolish behavior? All of them are nothing more than judgments, and they judge things that aren’t subject to will as good or bad.
In other words, all these disturbances are little more than opinions. Opinions about things outside of our control.
