Good morning.

“La [dea] fortuna è cieca” is an Italian phrase that translates as “[The goddess of] luck is blind.” In Italy, it’s a common comment in daily life. It invokes the ancient Roman goddess Fortuna—the deity of fortune or luck.

Fortuna is often depicted blindfolded. This is a nod to the unpredictability of life—the goddess, unable to see, is undiscerning in how she distributes fortune.

In English, we might refer to “blind luck”, an acknowledgement that good or bad fortune can happen to anyone, regardless of their actions or merit.
