Good morning.

The Red Wheelbarrow is a 16-word poem by the American poet William Carlos Williams. Despite its short form—or perhaps because of it—it is one Williams’ most frequently anthologized poems.

The 16 words are set out in the following style:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

That’s the poem in its entirety. My honest instinctive reaction to poems like this tends to be one of bemusement: This is poetry?
